This thing is designed to keep bears away, not with pepper spray or loud noises, but with a whopping 280,000 volts of electricity. It’s not about hurting the bear, but rather giving it a big, loud scare with crackling sparks so it runs off.
Imagine a robot character at a Disney park, like a little droid, that can chat or play with people. Normally, a human operator controls it remotely, using their own skills and gut feelings to make the robot act friendly, shy, or excited. This project from Disney Research wants to make the robot smart enough to do this on its own, without someone constantly steering it.
NASA’s Perseverance Mars Rover captured an unusual scene at the western rim of Jezero Crater on January 25, in an area known as Witch Hazel Hill. Using its navigation camera, it recorded a video of multiple dust devils whirling across the Martian surface.
