NASA IXPE Mission RCW 86
In the year 185, sky watchers in China noticed a guest star that flared brilliantly enough to be visible during the day for weeks before disappearing. That brief flash turned out to be a white dwarf star breaking itself apart in a Type Ia supernova. Centuries later, its memory is preserved in the faint form of RCW 86, a gigantic shell of blazing gas speeding outward at millions of miles per hour, by NASA’s IXPE (Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer) mission.

OpenAI Sora Shutting Down
OpenAI has quietly pulled the plug on Sora, announcing the shutdown on social media this morning with a brief thank you to everyone who used the app to create and share videos. The company acknowledged the decision would disappoint many users but offered no explanation for it. Sora launched last September as a mobile app built around a video generation model of the same name, and its run has come to an abrupt end less than a year later

TP-Link Tapo SolarCam C402 Outdoor Security Camera
Security cameras can be a real money pit because you have to deal with wiring, batteries that need to be replaced on a regular basis, and membership fees that add up every month. What if I told you there’s a way to bypass all that hassle for less than $60? The TP-Link Tapo SolarCam C402 Kit accomplishes exactly that, and at full price, it’s typically a good deal. When it is on sale (like now), you can get it for about $40.

Venus Flytrap Particle Accelerator Experiment
Electron Impressions has built a reputation for pushing physics equipment well beyond its intended purpose, and their latest experiment takes things further than most. The team placed a fully grown potted Venus flytrap, open traps and all, directly in the path of a linear accelerator to find out what high speed electron beam radiation actually does to living tissue, and whether the plant’s famous snapping mechanism would have anything to say about it.

Project Hail Mary Control Panel Recreation Replica
Matt from Creative Geekery knew from the moment he spotted the cockpit in a Project Hail Mary pre-release trailer that he was going to have to build it. The layout of those buttons and panels hooked him immediately, and despite having almost no reference material to work from, he set about recreating the feel of it using parts he already had around the house. What came out the other side looks like it belongs on a spaceship.

Wing Drone Deliveries San Francisco Bay Area
Residents in the San Francisco Bay Area can soon expect groceries and other home items delivered to their door by a large drone. Alphabet stated that Wing will expand its delivery service beginning March 24th, 2026, which has been a long time coming. Previously, this type of delivery was being tested on the Google campus in Mountain View. Office supplies were being zapped into employees’ offices, and they were frequently asking when this sort of stuff will reach their own houses. Wing is now making good on that promise by offering a residential delivery service to customers around the Bay Area.
